TabLens browser extension · Last updated 19 June 2026
The short version: TabLens runs 100% in your browser. It does not collect, store remotely, sell, or transmit any of your data. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no servers that receive your browsing data.
What TabLens does
TabLens is a bundle of five tab quality-of-life tools, each an optional toggle: a site usage timer, a daily streak & stats dashboard, scroll-position memory, sticky notes, and a page-change monitor. All processing happens locally on your device.
What it accesses — and why
- The active tab's URL — so the usage timer can attribute time to the correct site (domain only). It does not read page content for the timer.
- Idle state — to pause the timer when you step away, so only active time is counted.
- Sites you choose (
<all_urls>host access, optional) — requested only when you enable an on-page tool (scroll memory, sticky notes, or page diff monitor), so it can run on the pages you visit. If you never enable those, this access is never requested.
What it stores
Only on your device, via the browser's storage APIs:
- Your usage history (active seconds per site, per day) and the streaks computed from it.
- Your sticky notes and saved scroll positions, per page.
- The list of pages you've chosen to watch for changes, and their last-seen content fingerprint.
- Your settings — which features are on, and your theme choice.
None of this is ever sent off your device.
What it does NOT do
- No data collection, no transmission to any server we run, no selling or sharing of data.
- No accounts, sign-in, tracking, advertising, or third-party analytics.
- No reading of passwords, form inputs, or page content beyond what a feature you enabled needs (sticky-note text is what you type; scroll memory stores only a scroll offset).
Page diff monitor
If you enable the page diff monitor and add pages to watch, TabLens periodically fetches those specific URLs from your browser to detect whether their content changed. This happens locally; the fetched content is reduced to a fingerprint and compared on your device. Nothing is sent to us.
